Gustu Brahmanta was born in Kamasan art village, a centre of Balinese traditional arts; paintings and sculptures, situated in Klungkung regency, on the beautiful island of BALI. Music instruments are first introduced by his father, who then recognized his interest and talent in playing drums. Gustu began his first show in a small cafe in Candidasa, a tourist place in Karangasem regency, at the age of fourteen. Then the journey begins.

Gustu seeks instruction and guidance from books, the experts, senior musicians, social media and community. He achieved the Best Drummer in many band festivals and was the 3rd winner of Sonor competition, who then endorsed him in all of his shows in 2004.

Gustu has played in Bali’s numerous music venues and worldwide festivals as Ubud Village Jazz Festival in 2013, 2014 and 2015, Malaysia International Performing Arts Festival in 2014, Java Jazz Festival in 2015, Beishan World Music Festival in Zhuhai, China in 2015, Cheoyong Music Festival in Ulsan, South Korea in 2016 and Sanur Festival in 2016.

To remain at the forefront of music quality and wider his circles, he continued his study at Indonesia Institute of the Arts, Bali (ISI, Bali) and has successfully graduated from Magister program, majoring Arts Creation (Music) in 2016.

FIRST ALBUM: PUTRI CENING AYU

Gustu Brahmanta’s First Album, entitled “Putri Cening Ayu” was released in 2013. The album is mostly inspired by popular Balinese folk songs. Gustu Brahmanta Trio/ Quartet creates jazz folk instrumental with distinctiveness sound of Rindik, the Balinese gamelan made of bamboo tubes. Cut into various lengths, each bamboo provides a different tone and creating a light and gentle sound. This album and received 10 BEST OF 2013 ALBUM Version TEMPO Magazine, People Arts 2013. The album was also nominated for Indonesia Music Grace 2014 (Anugerah Musik Indonesia) in two categories; Best Instrumental Jazz Group and Best Jazz Album. It’s also worth mentioning that it has also received Best Trio Album in Jazz Goes To Campus (JGTC) 2014.

SECOND ALBUM: SONGS FOR CHILDREN

Gustu Brahmanta’s second album will be released soon in 2017. Gustu is dedicating this album to help children with cancer anywhere in Bali. All the money generated by the sales of this album will be donated to Yayasan Peduli Anak Kanker Bali (Bali Care for Cancer Kids Foundation). The crusade against the illness will be posted in our official instagram and twitter @gustu_brahmanta.
